Delhi- Style Matar Chaat

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Cup White Peas soaked for 5-6 hours or overnight
  • 1 ½ Cups Water
  • 1 Cinnamon
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 1 inch Ginger grated
  • 1 pinch of Asafoetida
  • Salt

To Garnish:

  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • ½ Tomato chopped
  • 1-2 Green Chilies as per taste
  • 2 tablespoon Cilantro chopped
  • 2 tablespoon Sev optional
  • 1 Lemon juice
  • Chaat Masala sprinkle
  • 2 tablespoon Pomegranate Seeds

Instructions
 

  • Add soaked white peas in Instant pot along with water, bay leaf, cinnamon, ginger, Asafoetida, and salt and close the lid.
  • INSTANT POT: With vent in the sealing position, pressure cook for 10 minutes at High-Pressure Level followed by NPR. When the valve goes down and is safe, open lid
    STOVE-TOP: At medium heat pressure cook till 5 whistles, and let pressure release naturally. When all the pressure is released then open the lid.
  • Press saute and keep cooking till most of the water evaporates. Add all the spices and stir until combined well.
  • Transfer in a bowl and add chopped onion, tomatoes, green chilies, lemon juice and give it a stir.
  • Garnish with sev, chaat masala, cilantro, and some pomegranate seeds and serve.

Notes

White peas are dried. So, they need to be soaked for 5-6 hours or overnight for use in this chat. If you forget to soak the peas overnight or don't have the option to soak them for long time, you can soak them in hot water for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
You can keep leftover white peas in the refrigerator for 4-5 days. You can also freeze them for 1-2 months. Before using them again just defrost in the microwave and enjoy it.
White Peas are good source of fiber and protein, and are also vegan. Hence a great option to enjoy any day of the week.
