THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN MAKING BREAKFAST TOAST
Making toast for breakfast is the easiest thing ever. But there are some things you must consider when making them like which bread to use, spreadt= to put, what flavors you can experiment with, etc.
I usually look at what is available in the pantry and my fridge and experiment. Sometimes I like it & sometimes I don't (it all depends on my mood).
What Bread to Choose
Toast is incomplete without nice crusty bread. The bread you choose totally depends on son your preference. Nowadays, there are many collections when it comes to choosing bread. You can make toast on whole wheat bread, artisan bread, ciabatta bread, or a sourdough.
I usually go for whole wheat or rye bread with large pieces to add lots of ingredients; store-bought or homemade sourdough works like a charm.
You can also use bread that has nuts or seeds as they are rich in fiber.
Spreads That Tastes Great in a Toast
When it comes to spreads, the options are unlimited. You can have sweet options are savory options, and both will work great. Here are some options That I personally like:
1 Sweet: For sweet variety, you can use peanut butter, honey, cream cheese, almond butter, maple syrup, fruit jams, chocolate sauce, etc.
2. Savory: You can use guacamole/avocado, hummus, chimichurri sauce, pesto, gochujang, mayonnaise, garlic sauce, green chutney, and cheese sauce, and many more.
Topping that Cannot go Wrong
Experiment with different toppings, and you'll get a new breakfast toast option every day. There are so many options available, from savory to sweet, that you'll not get bored of eating this for breakfast.
For the Savory Option, add some veggies like tomatoes, olives, peppers (mini peppers worked best), greens (like spinach, arugula, or sprouted greens), beets, reddish, avocado, etc.
For the Sweet Option, you can use fruits (like mangoes, peaches, pineapple, apples, bananas, pears) and berries (raspberries, blueberries, strawberries).
You can add Crunch with nuts like pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, chopped almonds, flavored peanuts, flax seeds, chia seeds, or cashews. Granola also worked great on a sweet toast.
For Protein-Rich, you can add roasted chickpeas (with your choice of flavoring), grilled tofu, grilled paneer, beans, eggs (boiled/fried/poached), etc.
Add-Ons: You can use a drizzle of honey or maple syrup on sweet toast. Garnish the toast with dill, parsley, or cilantro. Add your spices (paprika, cajun, chipotle, garam masala, lemon pepper, garlic salt) for extra flavoring. You can also use Everything Seasoning to elevate the flavor of simple avocado toast.
BREAKFAST TOAST IDEAS (5 WAYS)
PEANUT BUTTER WITH BANANA
This is the easiest sweet breakfast option & healthy too. Toast the bread and add a generous layer of peanut butter. Top it with sliced bananas and sprinkle some cinnamon powder. You can also drizzle some honey or maple syrup (for extra sweetness).
For more sweet option, you can also try Cream Cheese & Strawberry Toast. Add creamm chesse on a toasted bread and layer with some sliced strawberries. Drizzle some maple syrup for extra sweetness. It is like eating dessert in breakfast.
HUMMUS WITH CUCUMBER & TOMATOES
This is another popular toast option that I like. First, toast the bread and add your choice of hummus (classic hummus/ cilantro jalapeno hummus). I also like Trader Joe's 3-layer hummus dip for this special toast. Then top it with sliced cucumber and tomatoes (you can also add some olives). Finally, sprinkle some feta cheese, and enjoy!
Note: You can also make the same toast over Pesto too instead of hummus.
PESTO WITH ROASTED CHICKPEAS
This toast has roasted chickpeas, so it is protein-rich and definitely a good option for breakfast. First, roast the chickpeas with a bit of oil in a pan. Then, add your choice of seasoning (I have used buffalo sauce), but you can flavor it with some spices.
Next, toast the bread. Next, add pesto (of your choice); I have used Trader joe's Kale Pesto. Then top it with roasted chickpeas. You can also garnish with some chopped parsley.
To flavor the chickpeas: you can use hot sauce, gochujang sauce, etc. I love to add cajun, chili lemon pepper too in roasted chickpeas.
PERI-PERI WITH ROASTED SWEET POTATOES
I love sweet potatoes (especially the roasted ones), so I use them in my breakfast toast. I first roast them (either in the oven or in the air fryer). Then, cut them into bite-size pieces.
Add them to a pan with oil and add your choice of spices. I like to use garam masala and cumin powder to it. Next, toast the bread and add peri-peri sauce (go it from trader Joe's). Topped with sweet potatoes, and enjoy!
If you cannot find peri-peri sauce, you can use any other suace of your liking. Green Chutney, chimichurri sauce also works great.
AVOCADO TOAST WITH EGGS
Breakfast is incomplete without classic Avocado Toast. You can use guacamole or mashed avocados. Mash avocado in a bowl and add lemon juice and salt & peppers.
Toast the bread and add a generous layer of mashed avocado. Topped it with boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, poached eggs, or fried eggs. Add some spices (red chili powder, cumin powder, and garam masala powder) or any other spices (of your choice).
